“I came here for adventure, and, of course, for the money. I wanted a change, and this has been so different from my past experiences. It has been great for me professionally and personally.”
What I Do:
“I’m in charge of a 20-person squad. In the post briefings I do every day for our Force Protection Officers so they’ll know about any new procedures, I also make sure that everyone has the equipment they need. I check radio frequency, because staying in constant communication is a top priority. Throughout the shift, I am seeing that everyone takes their breaks in a timely manner, has time for a meal, and that all of the officers doing tower duty are relieved.”
Work, Laundry, Work, Laundry
“I work from 7:30 a.m. till 8 p.m. I leave the house at 6, get home at 9, go to sleep, and start a new day. I barely have time for laundry! Before I leave in the morning I put in my laundry, at night I take it out, and the next day I fold it. But time flies, and in fact, if I’m not working, I don’t know what to do with myself.”
The Female Perspective
“When I arrived, I was worried about fitting in – I’d heard that the guys treat the female officers differently. Happily, I found a very different scenario from the one I’d imagined. I have so much fun with the people I work with, and it makes it much easier on me. Everyone is very accepting, and coming from a family of guys, most of the time I feel right at home.”
Time Off in Kuwait
“I don’t have a lot of time off, but I really like Kuwait. I love eating out in the restaurants, shopping at Al Kout mall, and going to places like the Kuwait Towers and the Scientific Center.”
