Can I bring my spouse/family?
No. An FPO contract is a one-year unaccompanied tour. Once employees receive their residence visa, family members can visit Kuwait on a 90-day visa, but employees must get prior approval from the company’s housing department.

Can employees get medical/dental coverage for their family?
CSA offers medical, dental and life insurance for employees, and employees can add family coverage at their own expense.

Can employees bring their household goods?
The company will pay for some personal belongings to be shipped to Kuwait prior to departure. The general weight allowance is 100 pounds. In addition, International carriers allow passengers to check two bags of 50 pounds each at no extra charge. CSA will not pay for employees’ excess baggage or overweight luggage fees. Fortunately, Kuwait is a modern country with ample shopping opportunities for most needs.

Where do employees live?
Most employees are housed in fully furnished, shared accommodations and have one or two roommates. These accommodations are assigned prior to arrival. The housing complexes are located in different areas of Kuwait, not on the military installations. For more information on employee benefits and housing, click here.

How do employees get to work?
Most employees are provided transportation to and from work from their housing location. Employees can also lease/rent a vehicle at their own cost.

Can employees bring their pets?
The company discourages employees from bringing pets to Kuwait. The company will not pay the costs or make the arrangements associated with exporting a pet from another country into Kuwait. Additionally, all pets must be approved in advance by the company’s housing department and the employee’s roommate(s). The Kuwait Ministry has specific requirements that must be met in order to bring pets into the country. If hired, new employees would be responsible for meeting all requirements, making all travel arrangements, and paying all costs. A pet deposit is also required if the Employee Housing Department has approved the pet for a residence.

Can employees bring their own personally owned weapons?
No. Kuwaiti law prohibits importation of any personally owned weapons. Also, employees cannot bring any alcohol or pornography into Kuwait.

Is there Internet access in the apartments?
Many of the apartment complexes in Kuwait have LAN connections installed. However, it is at your cost to find an Internet carrier, several of which are available in Kuwait. There are also numerous wireless Internet cafes.

Are there telephones available to keep in contact with my family?
Free phone service is available for emergency calls only. For non-emergency calls, employees can purchase cell phones and recharge cards in Kuwait. If employees bring their own phone and service (i.e. Cingular, T-mobile, etc.) you can expect to pay about $3-$4 per minute. If you do bring your own phone ensure that it is a quad band phone, preferably UNLOCKED and that it is dual voltage capable of accepting 220V.
