Recreation

When you’re not working, there is always plenty to do in Kuwait. The city has superb shopping and dining, and a wealth of other activities will keep you entertained, relaxed or immerse you in the local culture.

Grab a latte at one of the many Starbucks in the city and then get pampered at the salon -- there‘s one on every corner, it seems. The men’s and women’s salons offer a full range of services, including professional hairstyling, pedicures, manicures and massages.

Cinescape has a dozen multi-screen movie theaters around the city that show newly released American blockbusters. You can buy your tickets in advance online and get the latest show times on your mobile device.

Family entertainment is also abundant, with many amusement centers and water parks. Go bowling, play video games or enjoy thrill rides at Cozmo Entertainment, Gameworks, Kuwait Magic or Entertainment City. Other options are the Kuwait Zoo or the many playgrounds at American fast-food restaurants. Yes, kids, Kuwait has McDonald’s.

Diving is popular in Kuwait, where pearl-diving was once a major industry. If you don’t know how to dive, consider taking lessons and becoming certified. The water is warm and there’s lots of certified instructors available.

A little cultural or educational enrichment is possible at Kuwait’s various museums and sights. Here is a sampling:

  • Kuwait Towers – View the city from the site of Kuwait’s most famous landmark. The main tower, with two spheres, has a rotating observation deck and several restaurants and cafes. The middle tower is a water tank that holds one million gallons of water -- the largest in the country. And the small tower provides electricity for the other two towers. • Grand Mosque – Tour Kuwait’s largest mosque, which holds 10,000 people at prayer time on Fridays. A tour guide will give the history of the mosque and provide insight into the Muslim faith. Visitors can tour the ruins and visit Failaka Heritage Village, which has hotel accommodations, restaurants, camel rides, shopping, a zoo, riding stables and a man-made lake with paddle boats.
